Today the Prime Minister set out to redefine how people and communities in the North connect, travel, and collaborate. The ambitious plans set out in the 'Network North' policy commit to reinvestment of £19.8 billion in pledges to revitalise local and regional connections, spurring job opportunities, economic growth, and underpinning a modern economy.
Lancashire is to receive a share of over £2bn in funding and there will be a new North Road Resurfacing Fund worth £3bn
There is also added funding for improved bus services, new bus routes to Royal Blackburn Hospital and a focus on local road projects.
These new announcements reflect what many of in the North have long known, that better transport via road, rail and bus between and within northern towns and cities is vital, not a few minutes shaved off infrequent journeys to London.
Commenting, Sara Britcliffe, Member of Parliament for Hyndburn and Haslingden said:
Since I was elected in 2019, I have built a vision for Hyndburn and Haslingden. We have brought in more than £55million to Accrington, freeing up money for our outer townships and invested in schools and services local people need.
“There is a vision to make Hyndburn and Haslingden a great place to live, learn, work, and visit. With the investment already received, and new investment announced in the North’s transport, we can marry up those visions.
