Sara Britcliffe, Member of Parliament for Hyndburn and Haslingden, has welcomed the news today (17 July 2023) that her constituency’s schools are to receive £87million from the Government under the National Funding Formula, the highest amount for the area on record and a 17% increase on when the MP was elected in 2019.
Across the country, the Government announced an increase in its schools’ budget to nearly £60billion in 2024-25, the highest level ever both in real terms and per pupil funding. In addition, high needs funding to support children with special educational needs and disabilities is increasing by £440million.
The funding builds on the Government’s ambition to deliver a world class education system, building on improvements such as a 20% increase in schools rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2023 compared to 2010, 27,000 more teachers in the same period, and the recent news that primary school children have reached the highest ever place in PIRLS international reading rankings.
Across Hyndburn and Haslingden, the increase in funding comes in addition to recent announcements on the Schools Rebuilding Programme, which included Haslingden High and Hyndburn Academy, the T-Level Capital Fund, in which Accrington & Rossendale College was successful, and the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, which saw a seven-figure award for Accrington Academy.
Sara Britcliffe MP commented:
I want Hyndburn and Haslingden to be a great place to live, learn, and raise a family. Our young people are our future and these investments mean they can get the skills and education they need for the jobs of the future right here in Hyndburn and Haslingden.
Education is something I am always raising down in Westminster, and I am glad this is paying dividends, especially with such a large increase in funding for Hyndburn and Haslingden since I was elected in 2019.
There is always more to do, but Hyndburn and Haslingden families should know I am on their side and will only settle for the best in our home.
