Sara Britcliffe, Member of Parliament for Hyndburn and Haslingden, has welcomed the news that the Conservative Party have kept their promise to hire 20,000 new police officers, alongside the announcement that Lancashire Constabulary exceeded its target by hiring an extra 612 police officers since Sara was elected as an MP in 2019.
Newly released figures show that almost 21,000 police officers have been recruited in England and Wales through the Police Officer Uplift – exceeding the Conservative Party's 2019 manifesto pledge to hire 20,000 new police officers.
Since the recruitment drive was launched in 2019, the 43 police forces across England and Wales have seen an additional 20,951 police officers recruited, delivering on the flagship manifesto commitment and putting a record number of officers into communities.
Getting extra police officers recruited across the country builds on the Government's Beating Crime Plan and the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act – reducing crime, protecting victims and making the country safer.
612 additional police officers joined Lancashire Constabulary over the last four years, exceeding the Uplift Programme recruitment target of 509 with extra officers funded locally.
Many of these new officers have completed their training and are already out in our communities protecting the public, with many more well on the way to becoming fully fledged police officers, serving alongside their committed colleagues taking the fight to criminals.
Speaking following the news Sara Britcliffe said:
I am delighted that we have kept our manifesto promise to recruit 20,000 new police officers.
That includes Lancashire Constabulary exceeding its target and recruiting 612 new officers in the last four years.
Since I was elected in 2019, working with your Lancashire Police & Crime Commissioner Andrew Snowden, we have seen robbery offences fall by 16%, theft by 24%, and burglary by 37%, as well as the recent £2million investment to tackle anti-social behaviour.
I will always fight hard down in Westminster to ensure Hyndburn & Haslingden residents have a strong & effective police force.
