Sara Britcliffe, Member of Parliament for Hyndburn and Haslingden, met with Northern Rail on Monday to discuss subjects ranging from Accrington Railway Station's ticket office to better transport connections in her constituency.
On the proposed closure of Accrington Station’s ticket office Ms Britcliffe made her feelings clear, including in relation the significantly reduced hours the station would have staff. There is an on-going consultation. Importantly, only 8% of the consultation responses received across the country so far relate to Northern. Less still regarding Accrington. Far more consultation responses are required and the best route to submit one is via email at [email protected]
Ms Britcliffe also discussed plans to improve accessibility at Church & Oswaldtwistle and Rishton Railway Stations through the Access for All Scheme and advocated for more frequent trains between Hyndburn and Manchester, potentially looking at ways we can incorporate stations like Rishton and Church & Oswaldtwistle.
Ms Britcliffe said:
Monday's meeting was productive and interesting, I am keen to see better rail transport options across Hyndburn and Haslingden.
On Accrington Ticket Office, while the consultation is still open, it is vitally important that anyone concerned about this closure submits a response. These responses will be key to determining what happens next.
I will keep working with regional partners like Northern Rail to improve accessibility across our constituency.
