St Christopher’s, one of the leading education providers in Hyndburn, has a Sixth Form with a 99% pass rate for A Levels - placing them in the top 100 schools nationally, and as a top five provider in Lancashire.
As part of an #AmazingAccrington initiative to bring schools and employers closer together, recently they hosted a visit from Sara Britcliffe, MP for Hyndburn and Haslingden, and Heath Groves, CEO of local technology company Sundown Solutions, who is an Apprenticeship Ambassador. The purpose was to inspire the pupils in their future choices and career paths, and also to get feedback on current practices and employer engagement, as we lift from Covid-19 restrictions.
Sara gave an inspiring talk on her journey into Parliament from St Christopher’s pupil, to becoming the youngest Conservative MP. Heath has an equally impressive career path, and explained the vital need for cyber security no matter what area of work, or just in everyday life – and that opportunities exist in software development and cyber security, not just as data analysts or developers, but in many business functions operating as an ecosystem around these roles.
Sara Britcliffe MP said:
“Here locally, there’s so much we need to do to make sure pupils have the future that they deserve. One of the things we want to do is to keep people local, to prove that they can have a future here and that they can thrive. This visit is the first of many in the area I hope, to inspire and inform our young people.”
Heath Groves, CEO of Sundown Solutions added:
“Hopefully my company gives people a reason to stay in Hyndburn, we are expanding rapidly and taking on many interns and apprentices, of all ages not just school leavers. We work at the very highest level of cyber, and it’s important for people to know that these opportunities exist in Hyndburn.”
