Accrington Market Hall is a vitally important part of our community. For decades, the stallholders have provided local people with a fantastic range of products and services. They are hugely valued and loved by everyone who lives locally.
Like so many businesses, the stallholders have been hit hard by COVID-19. Even when they were allowed to reopen, decreased footfall through the market has left some struggling to pay their rent.
I contacted Hyndburn Borough Council last month on behalf of stallholders and asked them to support these valued small businesses and reduce rents until after the pandemic has ended and business returns to normal. The Conservative Group then put forward a motion to the Full Council asking them to slash the rents to support them too.
I am delighted to hear that the council has agreed to the suggestion and will be reducing rents for stallholders by 50% for the next six months. Details of the announcement can be found here: https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/19404787.accrington-market-hall-rents-halved-tory-move/
I would encourage everyone who lives locally to visit Accrington Market Hall with your family and friends. See the fantastic range of products on offer and add some vital support to local small businesses.
