Sara Britcliffe MP has written to the chairman of the BBC, urging them to reconsider the decision to scrap the reading of classified football results.
The BBC are scrapping their Saturday Radio 5 classified results segment to make way for Premier League coverage. Many fans will still listen, or have fond memories of listening to this over the years on their way back from games.
Sara has written to the BBC to remind them that not all fans are Premier League fans, that the classified football results are a cherished tradition, and that it is wrong to assume everyone can check the results on a smartphone.
The results have been scrapped so the BBC can cover the 5:30pm Premier League fixture, and Sara, representing an area made up primarily of English Football League fans covering Accrington Stanley, Blackburn Rovers and Burnley FC, reminds the BBC that they are a public service broadcaster.
