On Parliament’s first day back after Christmas recess Sara Britcliffe, Member of Parliament for Hyndburn and Haslingden, pushed the Government on announcing successful bids to the Levelling Up Fund.
Hyndburn & Haslingden has already had success with such bids in recent times, with the £5.5 million Shared Prosperity Fund investment across the two council areas announced just before Christmas dubbed transformative by the East Lancashire MP.
Now Ms Britcliffe wants to see further investment as we enter 2023, with her question confirming the fate Hyndburn Council’s £23million Levelling Up Fund bid is due to be revealed by the end of the month.
Sara Britcliffe MP asked:
In Hyndburn and Haslingden we welcomed the shared prosperity funding received, which will support places like Haslingden Market. But after significant stakeholder engagement, we now eagerly await the outcome of our Levelling Up Fund bid, so can the Minister confirm that the results will be known before the end of the month?
Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Dehenna Davison MP, replied:
I am very grateful to my honourable friend and I know she is an excellent champion for her community. This isn’t the first time she has bent my ear on the Levelling Up Fund and I am sure it certainly will not be the last. I can confirm we will announce the full outcome of the Levelling Up Fund by the end of January.
Hyndburn Council has submitted a £23million bid to the Levelling Up Fund focussing on regeneration of Accrington Market Hall, Market Chambers and Burton’s Chambers.
