The Government has announced the next round of funding the the Safer Streets Fund, which will see a further £1.4million invested in Lancashire. The county has already received £2.7million since 2020 through the same funding mechanism.
This has included funding for interventions targeting Neighbourhood Crime (CCTV, alleygating, home security packages, street lighting, improvement of green spaces), Violence Against Women and Girls (Bystander training, personal safety workshops, focus groups) and anti-social behaviour (youth outreach workers, educational engagement, reparation work with victims and community clean up days). This latest funding will retain the primary focus of tackling neighbourhood crime, violence against women and girls and anti-social behaviour.
Hyndburn and Haslingden MP Sara Britcliffe has campaigned on these issues regularly both in Westminster and in her constituency, particularly around securing more officers and reducing crime, cracking down on fly-tipping, and speaking in Parliament about the importance of tacking anti-social behaviour.
Ms Britcliffe said:
Crime is a huge priority and I am pleased that since I was elected in 2019, alongside our new Police and Crime Commissioner in 2021, we have seen robbery offences fall by 16%, theft by 24%, and burglary by 37%.
There is always more work to do, but by banging the drum for investment in public safety down in London, we are seeing crime fall in key areas and attracting more funding, all while getting more boots on the ground.
I will continue standing up for Hyndburn and Haslingden to ensure we continue to reduce crime & invest in our police.
