Prime Minister Rishi Sunak visited Accrington again on Monday, spending time with business leaders at Accrington Stanley's Wham Stadium, while also witnessing the work the club does in the community first hand.
The Prime Minister gave an assurance that nearly £20 billion, initially intended for the northern leg of HS2, will remain for the benefit of the North. This strategic shift represents a pledge to prioritise regional infrastructure, something Hyndburn MP Sara Britcliffe has long been pushing.
Regarding the pivotal transport projects in Lancashire, such as the potential reestablishment of the Colne to Skipton railway line and the extension of the M65, the Prime Minister set out that Lancashire County Council was working on its settlement funding from the HS2 dividend and would then decide which plans to take forward.
Given the location of the event, the Prime Minister also assured Accrington Stanley's owner that the fan-led review of football would be implemented and the government will be creating a new independent regulator for football, supporting community clubs up and down the country.
